So it's been a while. Never fear I've kept up to date with all of you, reading your lovely posts several times a week and wishing I had the time and discipline to keep up with it myself.
Confession: I had blogger burnout.
The last few months have been intense. My work has been go-go-go: you know how most things wind down over the summer, only to start up again come Labor Day? Not my job! Working for a camp and conference center, summer is our busiest time. Needless to say, being at work 40+ hours a week plus commuting left me with little time and energy to do much else. I'd come home, eat dinner, exercise, shower, make my breakfast/lunch for the next day, talk to my husband a bit, then go to bed. It was exhausting.
I didn't feel like blogging AT ALL, much less anything else. I felt guilty for not writing, for not uploading my recipes that I cooked during my down time to relax a little, for not sticking to a "schedule" lest my followers forget about me. I read people's posts about going to blogger and healthy living conferences and the jealousy monster reared its ugly green head. Why didn't I have it all together?
So I didn't blog. It became a chore in my head, something that I had to do because I felt obligated. It wasn't fun anymore, and that made me sad. Blogging should definitely be something fun and inspirational, not a check off my to-do list.
And you know what? Life went on. No one electronically yelled at me via the interwebs. Everything was okay. Nobody has it all together.
Most recently, my husband and I traveled to Wisconsin for my sister-in-law's beautiful wedding, and had a glorious week to spend with extended family and take a much-needed break. Mentally, it was the best thing I could have asked for - to get away from it all. Summer doesn't feel like summer to me without hot weather, time by the water, and barbecues, and we had all of that! It was great.
We also moved this past weekend. I love our new apartment and I'm closer to work, so it's a win-win. The layout feels much more spacious than our last place, it's cheaper, and we're upstairs, so we have more privacy. Major thanks to my dad and John's friend from church for helping us load everything into a U-Haul, lug it upstairs, and offer much-needed moral support. You guys are the best :)
Lesson learned: I'll blog when I feel like it. I'll blog when it makes me happy to share something tasty with you all. There are a million other blogs out there, and that's a good thing. Variety is the spice of life, no? :)
Fear not, I'll still be around, when inspiration strikes. When that will be...only inspiration knows :)
Must be going around...I just wrote a post about blogging blues! You're absolutely right...blogging should be fun, and when it's not, time for a break. Sounds like you've come to a great conclusion!
ReplyDeleteI've missed you, but am glad you're doing well and keeping busy! Will be glad to see you blog from time to time...
ReplyDeleteI missed you too and am glad you're back! I totally get the blogger burn out thing. I took a break earlier this summer because I just needed to step back and do life minus all the computer time. I can't wait to read up on some jammin' recipes!
ReplyDeleteGood for you!! While we missed you, I think it's important to blog for you. It took me a while to learn that lesson, but when I "let go" it became for fun! Congrats on the new home, I hope the move went well!
